Since its initiation, on the 5th May 2011, the National Standards Act Working Committee, with the consultant from Malaysia, Skrine and Sirim Bhd, has now proposed various working strategies on the implementation of the project.
Phase one – which was held today, involve with the introduction of basic concepts pertinent to the work of standards and quality. The main purpose of the seminar is to provide some basic knowledge and understanding among ministries and agencies on the project and the principles of Standards, Quality, Accreditation and Measurement (SQAM) infrastructure.
Present as the Guest of Honour at the seminar was the Permanent Secretary of The Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, who is also the Chairman for the National Standard Council. Also present were members of the National Standards Councils, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Directors from various Departments and Divisions, Senior Government Officials under the ministry, and representative from National Technical Committees.
The afternoon began with the recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by Opening Remarks by the Guest of Honour.
Following from Phase one, the team will then be conducting a comprehensive study to understand the current standard development process across agencies. From the 29thJune to 8th July, the team will organize individual interview sessions with all relevant agencies consisting of the government and the private sector that are currently involve in establishing their guidelines based on international standards requirements.
